Peanut butter cookies are already so delightful, it’s hard to improve on them. However, sometimes you just want a little bit of chocolate, which is where peanut butter kiss cookies come in.
Just like Reese’s peanut butter cups – one of our favorite sweet treats! – these cookies combine peanut butter and chocolate into one delicious bite.
You may know them as “peanut butter blossoms” but, to misquote the Bard, a cookie by any other name is still as delicious.
What makes these different from classic peanut butter cookies?
We are massive fans of the classic peanut butter cookie, of course. But sometimes, you just want a little bit of chocolate.
Since peanut butter and chocolate go together so well, we take a peanut butter cookie and add a delicious Hershey’s kiss right on top. Perfection!
Why doesn’t the chocolate melt?
Although the first step in our instructions is to unwrap all of the Hershey’s kisses needed for the cookies, adding the chocolate is actually the last step.
The cookies are baked, pulled out of the oven, and then a Hershey’s chocolate kiss is added immediately to each cookie. That makes sure the cookies are soft enough still but out of the oven, so the chocolate mostly holds its shape.
For a fun variation on this classic cookie, make “paw prints (bear or dog)” instead of blossoms. To do this, you will need a bag of chocolate chips in addition to the package of Hershey’s kisses. First, form the cookie balls slightly larger than you normally would. Then, press a Hershey’s kiss into the center and flatten the top. Add four “toenails” in the form of chocolate chips.
Peanut Butter Kiss Cookies Recipe
Ingredients:
- 36 Hershey’s kisses
- 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 3/4 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 cup butter, softened
- 3/4 cup sugar
- 1/2 cup creamy peanut butter
- 1 Tablespoon molasses
- 1 egg
- 1/2 teaspoon vanilla
Instructions:
Start by unwrapping the chocolate kisses and placing on a paper plate. Set aside in a cool spot so they don’t melt.
Combine flour, baking soda, baking powder, and salt in a small bowl and set aside.
In another bowl, use a mixer on medium setting to cream together butter and sugar. Beat in peanut butter and molasses, then egg and vanilla.
Continue to beat, adding in flour mixture gradually until a dough forms. Set aside beater and use your hands to form a ball of dough.
Chill the dough for at least a half-hour so that it’s firm enough to work with.
Preheat oven to 375 degrees.
Form small balls and place each on a cookie sheet, about 2 inches apart.
Bake for 8 to 10 minutes to desired doneness. Remove from oven and immediately press a Hershey’s kiss into each one. (If you’re doing Bear Paws or Dog Paws, press the kiss into the center and flatten the point, then add 4 chocolate chips for “toes”.)
Remember, these cookies should not be piled up with other cookies because they’re likely to melt into each other. Also, peanut butter tends to take over other flavors. Store separately.
