Spread the love

This easy broccoli salad recipe is a family favorite! It’s so simple to make and since you can make it ahead of time, it’s one less thing to do on the day of a family get-together or party.

My family loves this recipe so much that they ask for it again and again. We serve it all year round but especially during picnic and backyard BBQ season. It’s the perfect side dish to accompany nearly anything!

Easy Broccoli Salad Recipe

Prep: 15 mins

Cook: 10 mins

8 to 10 servings

Ingredients:

2 heads fresh broccoli, chopped in bite size pieces approx 8 cups

1 small yellow onion, sliced thin

½ pound bacon

1/2 cup sliced almonds

1 cup mayonnaise

1 tbsp milk or cream

4 tbsp sugar

2 tablespoons white vinegar

Directions:

Place bacon in a deep skillet and cook over medium-high heat until browned. Cool and crumble.

Cut the broccoli into bite-size pieces and cut the onion into thin bite-size slices.

Note: You can assemble this one of two ways. Either, combine broccoli, cooked bacon, and sliced almonds (optional) in a large bowl and mix well. Then add the dressing. Or mix just the broccoli with the dressing and then add in the remaining ingredients. I find that I prefer the second method and get more even coverage of the dressing that way.

Prepare the dressing by mixing the mayonnaise and milk until well combined, add the sugar and stir.

Add the vinegar to the mayonnaise mixture and whisk until smooth.  (You may use more or less sugar according to taste.)

Stir dressing into the broccoli mixture until well coated.

Chill salad and serve cold.

Note: If desired you can stir in 1 cup of shredded cheese just before serving.
