  • Pam baking spray
  • 1 cup flour
  • 1/2 cup Hershey Dark Cocoa Powder
  • 2 tsp pumpkin pie spice
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • 1/2 tsp kosher salt
  • 1 1/2 cups pure pumpkin puree
  • 3/4 cup light brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup canola oil
  • 1/4 cup buttermilk
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 1/2 tsp pure vanilla extract
  • 3 Tbsp bourbon (see notes)
  • 1 cup chocolate chips divided

  • Preheat oven to 350 F and spray a 9x5 loaf pan with baking spray.
  • In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, cocoa, pumpkin pie spice, baking soda and salt.
  • In a large bowl, beat together pumpkin puree, brown sugar, canola oil, buttermilk, eggs, vanilla and bourbon, until combined.
  • Gradually whisk the dry ingredients into the wet ingredients. Then, fold in ¾ cup of the chocolate chips.
  • Scoop the batter into the loaf pan, and then smooth.
  • Bake in the preheated oven for 30 minutes.
  • When the 30 minutes is up, sprinkle the remaining chocolate chips onto the top of the bread.
  • Continue to bake for another 20-30 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean.
  • Allow to cool completely before enjoying!

If you'd rather your recipe be alcohol-free, you could either skip the bourbon or replace it with an equal amount of water if you believe your bread will be dry without it.
